The Celts found a unique element of clothing for antiquity, not typical for other nationalities (for example,Rome and Greece) - a skirt. The skirt was probably a feminine type of clothing, cinched at the waist with a belt, and worn with a shirt instead of the classic peplos. The discovery of the famous skirt has dimensions of 87 by 131 cm. Unlike peplos,it was completely sewn together. The upper part of the skirt has ropes for wearing with a belt. The find is made of woolen fabric.
Preserved Celtic clothing is especially valuable because organic materials rarely survive for centuries. The skirt shows not only shape, but also technology: cloth, seams, ties and the way it sat at the waist. These details help distinguish archaeological clothing from later artistic ideas of barbarian costume.
The skirt should be considered together with belt, shirt, cloak and footwear. Unlike draped Greek clothing, it presupposes a sewn form and a closer fit. For reenactment, length, wool fabric, colour, fastening and seam line are essential.
